Paul Asbury Seaman Blackett has a gift for expressing joy without sounding fluffy. His instrumental compositions sound so much like songs, you can almost hear the lyrics lurking just beneath the surface. Even when the melodies are subtle his tunes have a catchy feel, bringing to mind both Mike Oldfield and Paul Simon; Sade, late-period Sting, with a touch of Adele and Lisa Gerrard. Some tracks here border on cinematic or “crescendo-core,” but are spaced out enough for the album not to sound too syrupy. Favorite track: Distorted Mirror.
